This year marks the 30th McHappy Day for McDonald’s® Canada. It is the company’s longest running and largest charitable initiative with more than 1,400 McDonald’s restaurants celebrating McHappy Day this year.
The impact of Ronald McDonald House Charities across our communities is far-reaching. Today, 1 in 4 Canadians have either stayed at RMHC or know someone who has. Across the country, the RMHC network of programs enables access to Canada’s 16 specialty children’s hospitals for families who must travel to access medical care for their sick or injured child. The 16 Ronald McDonald Houses provide out-of-town families with a home to stay at while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital, while the 18 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms provide a comfortable place for families to rest and recharge, right inside hospitals.
Yet the need continues to grow. Today, RMHC across Canada is unable to support 4 out of 5 families who need their support due to lack of space.
The Ottawa Ronald McDonald House located just steps away from CHEO serves to accommodate families of patients coming from over 200 rural, northern and Indigenous communities annually. While CHEO’s patient population has continued to grow the capacity of the Ottawa Ronald McDonald house has remained the same since it opened its doors in 1984. To help meet these needs the Ottawa Ronald McDonald house is expanding! This new addition will feature 22 additional suits, multiple family rooms, a larger kitchen, quiet eating spaces, an elevator and so much more. This three-story expansion that will see the house increase to 36 suites comes at a price of $22.7 million.
As the local McDonald’s franchisee of Kemptville McDonald’s Restaurant, I’d like to invite you to attend this time-honoured tradition to show your support during McHappy Day and participate alongside my restaurant team and take on a role inside the restaurant. Your involvement would be a tremendous boost to our McHappy Day efforts and help us further RMHC efforts to heighten public awareness and raise funds for the Ottawa Ronald McDonald House and the Family Rooms at CHEO.
Ottawa’s Ronald McDonald house is expanding to meet the growing needs of out of town patients at CHEO and all funds raised will support their expansion!
